During an eye Examination
Your eyes will be examined by our Registered and University
qualified optometrist. Many people find an examination an interesting
experience and can be an important reassurance of their eye
and general health. The results are dependable as everything
is checked and re-checked to leave little room for doubt.
An eye examination will usually include the following parts:
1. Symptoms
Several questions will be asked about the reasons for your visit.
This may be that you have simply received a reminder, then it
is simply the time to check your eyes again. Describing your
discomfort or problems with your sight/eyes as accurately as
possible will enable the Optometrist in pinpointing the source
of the problem.
2. History
You will be asked about your general health and about any medicines
you are taking either from your doctor or through other sources.
Details of headaches, if any, and any close relatives who have
a history of eye problems. Other information such as your occupation
and details of your hobbies (e.g. those requiring close work
)will help us assess your visual needs and ensure that the best
spectacles are prescribed for your needs.
3. Vision
You will then tested with different lenses to see which ones
help the quality and clarity of your vision. You should not
feel you are giving the wrong answer, or if you are unable to
decide. This is a common problem and the experience of our Optometrist
will help you decide. All the answers will be checked and re-checked.
4. Eye movements & Co-ordination
Eye movements and co-ordination are checked to make sure that
both eyes are working together.
5. Other tests
Other test may also be carried out (e.g. colour vision,
etc.).
6. Other screening
Your eye health will be assessed by screenings
for glaucoma, cataract, etc.
After the eye examination
We will now have a thorough knowledge of the health of your
eyes, the status of your vision and any special requirements
that you may have. This information will be explained to you.
Spectacles will not be prescribed unless they are necessary.
In the event that you require prescription spectacles, advice
will be given on the suitability of the frame to carry the type
of lens you need. We will see to it that careful fitting and
dispensing will ensure that your new spectacles will be both
visually and physically comfortable.
